Where It All Started
As you can see I’m just a regular guy that stumbled upon domain names one day in September of 2006. I used to be a semi-pro online poker player, and one day I learned that poker sites offered cash bonuses for new player referrals. It was then that a light bulb went off…
I remember thinking, “If only I had a website, then I could refer others to sign-up at my favorite poker sites and make extra cash to cushion my bankroll!”
You see, it had never occurred to me before that I even could build a website. Once I set out to do it, I quickly realized that before getting any new website up on the internet, one first needs a domain name to put it on.
Fast Forward
To make a long story short, my first poker affiliate site never quite panned out. BUT it was the tipping-off point for what was to be a life-changing discovery – that there was a whole sub-culture of people with a specialized knowledge about a virtual commodity based on words that they bought and sold for a living.
Looking back, it’s clear how little I understood about domain names. Where should I buy my domain? What domain registrar is best? Why are so many of the domains already taken?
These days i get asked these same questions and more by friends, family, and every day people I meet. Not only am I now in a position to answer them, but I can also go on to explain the value that some domains have over others, the importance of traffic, and that great domains are still available to buy if you only know where and how to look.
My Goal
I’d like to share with you some of what I’ve learned over the years and continue to learn about domains. I find that too many people are still unaware of the role that domains play, in everything from Search Engine Optimization (SEO), to branding, to lead generation, to pay-per-click advertising, to type-in traffic, so on and so forth.
More fundamentally, there is a need for business intelligence to help companies large and small to better understand and navigate the domain channel. I hope to help provide that.
What are your goals?
I’d love to hear your story too, and I’m always just an email or a phone call away ….
