Okay, just kidding about that last one. (Maybe)

But make no mistake, this is going to be a hell of a road trip. I am so happy to have the freedom to pick up and travel to New Orleans on a moments notice for what is sure to be a monumental weekend.

And while I am super excited to say the least, this is at once a business excursion as well as an incredible vacation, and I do have some plans that I’m stitching up today on how to market some end-user sales while I’m down in the Big Easy, if all goes well.

Although this will be my first domain industry event, I have attended some web hosting tradeshows in the past. I really relish the personal networking, the meet and greets, and shaking hands with people.

The other aspect of tradeshows that I love is the opportunity to hear top industry leaders give their talks and hold the panel discussions. These people head the companies that are integral to the business we do every day.  These talks are by industry leaders for industry leaders, and in my eyes hearing them present is a chance to be on the bleeding edge of the domain industry.

I vividly remember sitting in for the keynote speech on cloud computing by Parallels CEO Serguei Beloussov at HostingCon in 2008. When the hour was up I knew more about cloud computing and the future of the hosting industry then I think I would have ever pieced together by reading on internet forums and blogs.

I’m also greatly looking forward to the chance to shake hands with DNJournal veteran Ron Jackson, to meet Anrew Alleman of Domain Name Wire whom I just recently learned is from the Austin area, and to sipping hurricanes alongside Bruce Marler and other domainers whom I’ve conversed with over twitter, forums, and email but have never met.

Originally I was not planning to attend this event but as fate would have it I entered into a last chance drawing on DomainGang.com and won a free conference pass sponsored by Parked.com.

I am extremely grateful to have received this opportunity, and I look forward to throwing down roots this weekend that will blossom into vigorous Texas domaining succulents!

A huge thank you to the Domain Gang, proud purveyors of domain industry satire since 2009!

Another big thank you goes to Parked.com, a leader in domain parking for sponsoring the giveaway.

See you all in New Orleans!.
