Update: 25.com No Longer At Auction on CAX

November 30, 2012

Since first breaking the news about 25.com having received a $1,500,000 bid at domain marketplace CAX, other bloggers had speculated about whether the bid or the bidder were in fact legitimate.  It turns out those speculations proved accurate.

Although the 7-day auction was scheduled to run until December 2nd, the domain no longer appears to be at auction.  It is still listed for sale on CAX at the same reserve of $1,500,000.

Francois Carillo, owner of CAX.com confirmed that he cancelled the auction after having an SMS conversation with the bidder, who indicated they did not have direct access to the funds.  One wonders why they made a bid in the first place

News of the cancellation is obviously disappointing to those involved.  This would have marked the highest publicly reported domain sale of 2012.  It’s ample reminder that a sale isn’t a sale until the money is in the bank.

Note: News of the auction flop was first reported by DomainGang.com.
