Will The Real DomainMarket Please Stand Up

Is Mike Mann going Gangnam Style expanding his operation to Korea?

They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.  If that’s the case, uber domain investor Mike Mann has good reason to be flattered.

Founded in 2007, Mann has built a successful $2.1 million/yr (2011) enterprise around his DomainMarket.com, a company named to this years INC 500 list of Fastest Growing Companies.

It looks as though all the success and notoriety has spawned a designer imposter out of Korea in the form of DomainMarket.co.kr.

As you can see from the screen caps below, the logos, color scheme and even the site layouts of DomainMarket.com and DomainMarket.co.kr are strikingly similar.

DomainMarket.co.kr Screen Cap, December 3, 2012

Although the current whois records for DomainMarket.co.kr show the registration dates back to April 2006, using Archive.org’s Wayback Machine, the exact date of the current design of the .co.kr website going live can be pinpointed to July 16, 2008.

Here you can see how DomainMarket.co.kr appeared the day before, on July 15th. Note the site’s previous logo and color scheme.

For comparison sake, here is the historical screenshot of DomainMarket.com on July 4th of that same year, 11 days earlier.

DomainMarket.co.kr is registered to a ‘ki-kwan bae’.  We did not attempt to contact the registrant for comment.
